Today in class our announcements went on like they normally do. After that, Mr. P told everyone that we needed to get out essays turned in to get graded. Deadline: Friday after we come back.
At 1:17 we reviewed the pie chart paper we got.
At 1:27 we learned the "peasants pay 50% of income pay taxes " (Minji Seong) and the women would often steal bread from the baker to feed their kids. If the baker tried to stop them, they would beat him up.
At 1:33 the class got patrolled to see who did their homework. Two of our main leaders didn't do it, I'm not going to name names. At 1:42 we learned that "most taxes come from the 3rd estate" (Yousef Battow). Is it just me or does this concep sound very familiar?
At 1:52 we learned that deficit spending was the reason for bankruptcy "America will become bankrupt when we're 30" (Michelle Yum).
HAPPY THANKSGIVING BREAK!!!!

Today in class we had our regular P-Ville announcements.
At 1:23 we got assignment sheets 2, 3, 4, and 5.
During the time of the revolution, if the people had food they were happy. If not, then a rebellion is sure to happen. "Food can be a reason people revolt." (Ariel Rubin).
At 1:34 we found out that King Louis married Marie Antoinette when he was 15 and she was 14...No comment. Mr. P. also talked about how the first two estates never got taxed!
Then we watched a video at 1:42 on students that were protesting peacefully outside UC Berkley and how the students got beat up by the campus police! That is not right!
Closer to the end of class, at 1: 52, we talked about the clergy and how the "clergy didn't like enlightenment." (Kent Hirano).

In today's class it started off with Mr.P telling the class that notes are allowed on the test. YAY!!! At around 1:12
Mr.Welch came into the class and said that his class doesn't know what
rights they should protect. "Mr.P is yelling at Mr.Welch's class"
(Elisabeth Gomez). After that we disscused the 3 branches of the
Government and how each state has a limit of 2 senators per state. And
that there are "More cows in Wyoming than people" (Moira Camacho).
Congress makes all the laws we live by and they have not declared war
since World War 2. That's pretty good. at 1:23
we found out that the presidant can't certin things or he could get
thorwn out of office an example would be how "Andrew Johnson got
impeached" (Hailei Gagnon). At 1:36
we learned that American embassy are in most foreign countries. The
Supreme Court only handles cases that are involved between states. 3 out
of the 9 members are women. "Ladies are 51% of the country!" (Marro
Youssef). We may have that female president sooner than we think.

Today in class we did our regular announcements.
After, we went over work sheet #5 and some of the answers. At about 1:40 we talked about Voltaire. "Behind fortune, is a crime" (Brittany Kernodle).
At 1:45 we learned that the "Declaration of Independence was like a break up letter" (Dylan Han). The Americans never thought of the U.S. as united but separate. An example of that: New York was a separate from Virginia in its goverment system.
Toward the end of class, at 1:50 we learned that Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton had two completely different ideas on how the country should be run. Apparently, Jefferson's idea of how the government should run might have been better...now we will never know.

Today we did our regular announcements and apparently there was a basketball game that lasted 120 hours! When the announcements were finished we talked about some new jobs that would be done like once upon a time, sports, and more.
Next we discussed our essays at about 1:20. A simple thing to remember is: "K-I-S-S Keep It Simple Stupid" (Mark Finkenbeiner).
At 1:30 we got worksheets #6 and #7, both of which, along with the rest of the packet, are due on Friday. We have to read both the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence to see where Locke's, Montesquieu Rousseau's, and Voltaire's ideas are hidden.
Later, the class discovered that Descartes created the coordinate plane and geometry. thanks a lot Descartes! He also thought that everything we see, hear, feel, etc. may not be real. "I think, therefore I am" (Lauren Nuchols). Thanks a lot Descartes!

Today we had our first real announcements, including the weather, the quote, the "This Day in History", and the poll for the name of the second class fish.
After that and a brief talk about recap about jobs, we had a Paper Pass Out Challenge! This was the first one with two rounds! The King (Dylan) has kept his title through one more challenge, but it was relatively close.
Once everybody had the worksheets, we started talking about #4, which is the historical figures worksheet.
At 1:21, we took a pretest to show people how much they need to study, me included, and to get all the facts straight for the test on Friday! Don't forget to study!
At 1:40 we concluded the test discussions and went back to discussing the Reformation era, with Martin Luther, Protestants, Catholics, the Spanish Armada, and the Anglican Church.
"He who controls the seas, controls the world." Now, "He who controls the air controls the world" (Tailer Shintani) and in the future, "He who controls space, controls the world." Star Wars, coming soon to reality.

Today we learned about stocks, including Joint-stock companies and how they work.
At 1:30, we learned about what King Phillip has taught us. "In the short run it's easier to make than to take, but in the long run it's better to make than to take." Remember this lesson guys!
At 1:38 we started learning about the Reformation. We even had a demonstration with the pope, princes, and princesses.
On Halloween on 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church's door in order to make his point about what was going wrong with the church and the way the pope was running it. One of those problems was selling indulgences.

Fish announcement! We are getting a class fish! This was also the day Mr. P. told s about the upcoming art show!
At 1:22 we started talking about Zhang He and other explorers, including briefly mentioning Columbus though we did not go into much detail. The Chinese had much larger ships and were already exploring by the time Columbus set out. The difference was that they did not capture anyone.
Japan isolated itself from the rest of the world for 50 years, though Japan and Korea(also isolated from the world) are the most technologically advanced countries.
At 1:33 we learned about the three G's of Exploration (the three reasons): God, Glory, and Gold.
We soon moved on to learning about slave trade, which made Hailei sad (makes me sad too).
Keep this in mind: There is still a form of slavery. In China, there is a net around the main Apple company production business. That's to make sure the miserable people don't jump off to their death.
Any idea where all the spices you guys eat come from? Almost all spices come from India.
Speaking of India, a lot of our food is thanks to other countries. After all, North America did not automatically grow everything and still doesn't.

This was the Tuesday right after Veteran's Day weekend. At the beginning of class, we talked about what we did over the weekend and Mr. P.'s amazing ability to run a mile in 5 minutes 15 seconds.
After that, the election results were announced! Ivan was elected as Speaker of the Supreme Council and his assistant is Nathan! The other elected Supreme Council members are Kent, NeKendra, and Shamir.
We talked about the essays and how to write great essays for the next 5 paragraph essays. Don't forget to check out the powerpoints!
Talking about the essays brought upon the printing press, including learning about monks having to print the books by hand.
The printing press was a significant part of Martin Luther's spread of his 95 theses.

Today was the day we asked questions to the Supreme Council nominees and proceeded to choose who we wanted in our Supreme Council. Nobody wrote much about the questions, so that's all I have on that subject.
At 1:40, we began taking notes on the Northern Renaissance, which was inspired by the Italians.
At 1:53 Mr. P. told us that Utopia means "not anywhere."
Not much to report for class that day... Try to write more specific notes guys!

Thursday: The day of thirty second speeches!
At 1:13, the speeches were over. We started talking about the differences about Middles Ages and Renaissance (the French word for "rebirth") and that brought us into the subject of Dante's Inferno at 1:18. This discussion, however, was really rather brief.
We soon moved on to talking about art and the churches. We discussed Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
At 1:34 we moved on to talking about Machiavelli and his ingenius way of controlling people, including a demonstration from Mr. P. He asked two guys to race to the doors and see who could open them the fastest and get back to their seats. He didn't care which one won, he just wanted the doors open without having to do anything. Quite a marvelous way of getting work done, right? What if we could do homework that way, by tricking people into doing it for us? I'm sure not many people would have any objections to doing that. :)
At 1:50 we learned a bit about banks and Patrons of the Arts.

THE BEGINNING OF P-VILLE
This is a MONUMENTAL day in our history as a class government. It is the very first day of our P-ville history.
Mr. P. told us the history from the year he took "on" and traveled, remember, about burying the treasure with three other people then digging it back up with one person and burying it somewhere else? If only we could have had a map with riddles and clues in order to find the buried treasure from P-Ville history.
Mr. P. picked Becky as the DOD for our class. Then we started our nominations.
The nominations were: Moira, Ivan, NeKendra, Ariel, Brittany, Camillo (the only one to decline), Nathan, Kent (who was absent that day so he automatically accepted the nomination), Lauren, Hailei, Paul. Then there were three self-nominations: Bryant, Shamir, and myself.

This day was a part of our Autocracy and Democracy lessons, possibly the first, when we started writing BBQ notes. We learned about Feudalism, Monarchy, Tyranny, then went back to Monarchy. Remember choosing representatives and watching Mr. P. bribe them? This was the day that happened.
"Follow the money" wrote Amanda Laurenco. Always sound advice.
At 1:21 we started talking about democracy, including Athenian Democracy.
At 1:26 we moved on to Direct Democracy. This included learning about the three branches of government we have today: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial.
At 1:38 the discussion about Mob Rule began, including the comical reading from politicians and citizens.

We started learning about Taoism and Lao Tzu. These teachings were about "seeing the best of life" according to Ben Kirkpatrick.
On this day, we also started talking about the very first radio broadcast, the one about Religions and Myths. Advice from Madison Kane: Don't ask trivia questions. This was related to the two extra questions we chose to ask.
Everyone else wrote that they were in their groups thinking of the two questions to write for the interviews.

We started talking about religions, specifically religions in the East.
At 1:13 we went slightly off-topic and started talking about Lucy possibly being fake, probably Mr. P.'s way of reminding us that we can't trust all information.
At 1:17 we began talking about Islamic religions. Mr. P. taught us about fasting during Ramadan in order to experience what the poor feel like since they cannot get food every day. We learned about the five pillars of Islam. We briefy learned about Sunni and Shia muslim, then moved on to talking about the Mosque in Mecca, the ultimate holy place of worship for Muslims. If you'll recall, all Muslims MUST travel to Mecca at least once in their life, and every day, when they pray five times a day, they must be facing Mecca.
At 1:47 we started briefly talking about Hinduism, including their art and belief in reincarnation.

This was the day that we picked our class welcomers, Nathan and Lauren. This was also the introduction to Geography, including learning a little about Lilly, the very smart toddler who knows more geography than most Americans.
A very important piece of wisdom from Mr. P: Don't automatically trust the images in your head. In case you guys don't remember, this was the point where he demonstrated that the images in our heads were planted there at one point or another.
Even history is corrupted. History was written mostly by men, rich men, so women and the poor were not included in the majority of history.
The lesson of the day even included the different ways people act depending on where they are. Czarina wrote; "Russia: Your dress is ugly. Sweden: It's interesting." Quite a difference, right? Which would you rather hear?
It was at 1:43 that we were introduced to Little Lilly through a video.
At 1:47 a very important beginning happened in P-Ville history. The beginning of PAPER PASS OUT CHALLENGE. Dylan became the first King of Paper Pass Out Challenge. And still is. Somebody must overtake the king!
A very eventful and important day in P-Ville History!

The next part of the class history talks about the video lesson! During the first round, many people wrote about their confusion or their boredom because they were not on the side watching the video. Ivan mentioned Mr. P. saying detective have to be attentive, a very important bit of wisdom and truth from our great teacher. Remember this all future detectives!
After watching the first video, Mr. P. asks the side of the class watching the video what they saw.
Towards the end of the lesson, classmates mention Mr. P. explaining why television is bad. Dylan Han wrote "Mr. P. is fighting TV" while Jordan wrote that Mr. P. was "telling [us] to question sources."
Many people were amused or amazed by this lesson, overall a great day. :)

What happened in the course of one minute? Unfortunately nobody else wrote anything because the class history stopped going around so I guess we will never know. If anybody remembers, please leave a comment to this post! It is really important to write as many details as possible and keep this for the future!

The first line on the class history for the very first day of a great school year is Mr. P.'s line "Today is the day we met" at 1:11. Many people mention learning about Mr. P.'s class, including "art that's framed on the right side of the chalkboard." (Moira) Mr. P started explaining the website at 1:19 and at 1:24 he asked us to get the numbers of at least two class mates in case we are absent. The people then note that the class is interesting, Kent even mentioned Mr. P. being hyper! :) At 1:33 we wrote information on the back of index cars, contact info and hobbies.
Overall, most of the comments were about how awesome Mr. P is and how fun the class is. It was a very good first day of class.
